    The Santa Rita Mines
    Col. Jose Manuel Carrasco Discovered a deposit. The deposit that the Col. found, was copper. This mine was, and still is located in the Santa Rita Mountains.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The USA bought the piece of land from France. We bought the land, so that it could unite the US. Before the trade, France won the land, originally, becauseof a war with Spain. So we purchased the Louisiana Territory.
  • Pike, and the crossing of the Sangre de Christo Mountains

    Pike, and the crossing of the Sangre de Christo Mountains
    Pike decides to cross the Sangre de Christo Mtns. in hopes of finding the Red River. As he comes to a river, to what he thinks is the Red river, is actually the Rio Grande. Once there, Pike builds a little shelter, but only to have the spanish capture him. Pike later gets taken to Santa Fe, Mexico, then near Louisianna. He finally gets back to the US, in June of that year.

    In 1810, 2 years before the actual war of 1812, a revolution started. The revolution took place all over the US, and started by a man called Father Hidalgo. I believe that the revolution was on the usage of slavery.

    Governor Joseph Manirrque responded to a request for more troops, sent a circular to each acaldes into New Mexico. The town which they were sent to, was Santa Cruz and Taos.This was all in 1812, in order to ban slavery.

    The bishop born in 1814, was none other than Archbishop Jean Baptiste Lamy. Lamy, was born in France as a matter of fact. This was a guy who ordered for the St. Francis Catherderal to be built.

    A man named William Becknell, was headed for the Rocky Mtns., to trade,when he was found by Mexican Calvary men. He was taken into Santa fe, and his things were alredy traded. With the trades that happened, throughout Santa Fe, he was credited with making the Santa Fe Trail.

    Mexico finally got it's independence away from spain. Even though the seperation took place in the spring of that year, word didn't reach santa fe until December of that year. Local Government officials of that time, joined Mexico.

    In the New mexico territory at the time there was little press. The man who complained on this, was Antonio Barreiro. He said that having more of press, would show more literacy in the territory.

    Books for school sessions, finally arrived in New Mexico. The first books acualy came from Taos. The man in charge was Padre Antonio.

    Americans kept on coming into the New Mexico territory, so after a short effort to do so, Mexico revises the Policy. Eventually they choose to revive it.

    The New Mexico was like a department to the americans. It stayed this way until the US occupation.

    The revolt, was full-fleged, mostly in the Chimaya area. It was against the Mexican Governor.

    Texas soldiers, try to take eastern lands in our territory. There were even efforts made by the governor about this.

    the mexican-american war had to do with us pledging allegance to them. 1996 marked the 150th anniversary of it. they offically declared war on May 13, 1846.

    This was a planned rebellion against its own state! The reason being, is because of the loss of mexican soverenty, in the state. In the rebellion, they killed Gov. Bent

    Before the American conquest, and occupation, there was an uprising. With the same concepts as the Taos rebellion.

    One of the oldest societies created. It organized in December of that year. This group incuuded many races of people.

    100 years ago, this land finally became a state. There were lots of negative reasons, but we overcame it.
