    Henry Clay made a plan to solve Califonia problems to make the North happy he would free state and slave trade woul be abolished in washiongton D.C. To keep the north happy they wont pass laws regarding slavery for the rest of the territories won in Mexico.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Senator Stephan A. Douglas drafted a bill for governing the Nebraska Territory into two territories Nebraska and Kansas. They decision about whether to allow slavery In these territories was settled by popular soverignty. If the bill was passes it would result of getting ride of the Missouri Compromise
  • Bleeding kansas

    Proslavery and anitislavery settlers went to Kansas territory to vote for the territories legislature.There were more prosalvery settlers than antislavert in the territory.Most of the proslavery came to vote in the election illegally. Antislavery settlers boycotted the offical governmant and formed a government of their own and are attacked.Then a abolitionist named John Brown retaliates by murdering five proslavery people. War breaks out in the kansas terriotory.

    Senator Charles Sumner gives a speech of attacking the proslavey forces of Kanses. In his speech it was full of insults. He even made fun of A.P. Butler a sentar of South Carolina. One of the Buttlers relatives had heard the speech anf for that attacked sumner. Southerners cheerede for Brooks defence.

    In the election it turned into two different races for the presidency one in the North the other in the South. Lincoln and Douglas were the only candidies in the North. Breckinridge and bell competed for southern vote. Lincon and Brckinridge were consisdered to have the most extereme views on slavery.Lincoln opposed trhat expansion.
