    Compromise of 1850
    North to be pleased, California would have to be admitted as a slave free state. Slave trade would also be taken away in Washington D.C. for the North to be happy. In order for the South to be pleased, no laws would be able to prohibit slavery. A lot of people thought this compromise would help save the union but it didn't.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    Stephen A. Douglas composed a bill for governing the Nebraska territory. The conflict in this was that the bill that Douglas wanted to pass would divide the Nebraska territory in two, which would be Kansas and Nebraska. This conflict was caused by a law that was trying to divide the Kansas and Nebraska territories. It overturned the MIssouri Compromise. It also made there be violence in Kansas.

    People that supported slavery were called proslavery and people that didn't support slavery were called antislavery. Proslavery people and antislavery people hurried into the Kansas Territory so they could vote for territorial legislation. The problem in this event was that during the time of the election, there were more people that supported slavery, than people that didn't support slavery. The cause of the problem was that 5,000 people from Missouri voted came and voted illegally.

    When Senator Charles Sumner gave his speech, he attacked the people that supported slavery in Kansas. He also made fun of A.P. Butler. Preston Brooks who was at the speech, who was also Butler's relative heard and did not like what Sumner said about his relative. Preston Brooks attacked Sumner with his cane, as Sumner was sitting down at his desk. This became a problem. The thing that caused this problem was that Sumner made fun of Preston Brooks's cousin who was A.P. Butler.

    Dread Scott v. Sanford
    Dread Scott was a slave who was taken by his master a territory that was free. The cause of this case was that since Dread Scott was taken by his master to a territory that was free, he thought that he was free. But he wasn't because he was taken back to Missouri. The problem was that Dread Scott sued his master, Sanford, so he could become free, but since Dread Scott was a slave and not a U.S. citizen he was not allowed to sue Sanford.

    John Brown apprehending the Harpers Ferry arsenal is what caused the problem. The actual problem was when four people got killed during the fight. Another problem that happend was when Brown got attacked by the U.S. Marines at Harpers Ferry. The cause of this problem was also John Brown apprehending the Harpers Ferry arsenal.

    Abraham Lincoln won the Election of 1860 because he got the most electoral votes. As a result of this election South Carolina and six other states decided to secede from the Union. Soon after they formed their own government called the Confederate States of America.
