Martin Luther King, Charles K. Steele, and Fred L. Stuttleworth is established by them, and is a civil rights group. -
Sputnik Launch
Marlee is really great at math. So when Sputnik is launched, she tries even harder to do the best in math so she can become a rocket scientist. -
KKK (Klu Klux Klan)
Marlee's dad invited a Negro to their church, after that he found a note tucked inside of the newspaper that said, "You let your youngest walk to school tomorrow, she won't make it. -KKK" -
Liz is BLACK!!!!
The day Marlee goes to do her presention with Liz, her teacher Miss Taylor, says that Liz has the flu and won't be able to do the presentation with her. Later on though, Marlee finds out that Liz is actually black and was passing as a white. -
WEC(Women's Emergency Commity)
Miss Winthrop, Marlee's Sunday School teacher, is a part of this commity and had asked Marlee's mom to join for one dollar. She declined but Marlee took up the offer. The WEC "is not for intergration or segregation but for education" according to Miss Windthrop. -
Betty Jean's boy is caught
On Halloween, Red starts egging a white lady's house, Mrs. Jefferson, and when Curtis is walking down the road, he is blamed for egging the house. But only Liz and Marlee know what actually happened. -
NAACP(National Association for the Advancement of Colored People)
Betty Jean, the black hired help for Marlee's family, talked to Marlee about what was going on with the blacks and about this organiseation(NAACP) and how they were part of the Brown v. Board of Education case. They were the ones who started the mess with interogation, according to Betty Jean. -
A first time for flying
One Christmas present that Marlee's dad gives to them is a flight to Little Rock, AR their home. At first Marlee is treffied then she relises that flying is fun, and that you should face your fears because you never know what you could like if you don't try. -
STOP(Stop This Outrageous Purge)
After the high schools closed, the teachers who were thought to be supporting segregation were kicked out. STOP was an organization to help those teachers get their jobs back. -
Marlee faces her fears
At the beginging of the book, Marlee is at the high dive at the public swiming pool and she won't jump. Athe end of the book, she is finally able to jump and when she comes up, she hears the lions roar which is a sound that comforts her.
