    Japanese Occupation Of Korea Begins
    The Japanese treated the Koreans like conquered people. In 1910, the Japanese even cause the last ruling monarch because the son who was supposed to take over throne married a Japanese woman. In some ways, the Koreans enjoyed being under the rule of the Japanese.

    Chinese Winter Offensive

    The Chinese chose the winter to attack because of the harsh conditions. It's extremely difficult to fight in that weather, so China prepared themselves while others were not. This cornered the Americans, hurting their chance of winning.
  • WWII Ends

    After six years of conflict, the Japanese finally surrendered on May 8, 1945. Millions of soldiers and civilians were killed during this war.
  • Korea Divided at the 38th Parallel

    Since the Soviets occupied the northern part of Korea, the United States wanted an occupied zone (communist-free). They ended up drawing an evenly divided line between North and South Korea. This line became official on August 15, 1945 at the 38th Parallel.
  • Korean War Begins

    When North Korean armed forces invaded South Korea, the Korean War began. The United States defended South Korea for a bloody three years. Thr Chinese, surprisingly, defended North Korea in war.
  • Battle of Pusan Perimeter

    The Battle of Pusan Perimeter started in August of 1950 and ended in Septemember of 1950. This was a long and extensive battle between United Nations and North Korean forces. The Pusan battle marked the end of the North Korean invasion of South Korea. The Allies had regained control after this battle.
  • Battle in Inchon

    The Battle in Incon started on September 15, 1950 and ended on September 19, 1950. U.S. Marine forces made a surprise amphibious landing in Inchon. This was a risky location, and idea in general, but General MacArthur insisted on it. The Battle in Inchon dramatically changed the course of the war.
  • South Korea Enters War

    South Korean troops crossed the border into North Korea until October 1st, 1950. U.S. and South Korean forces marched in North Korea, triggering communist Chinese forces to defend North Korea.
  • Chinese Enters Korean War

    The Chinese entered the Korean War on North Korea's side. They helped them launch a massive attack on the U.S. and South Korea. This really surprised the United Nation troops because the Chinese came out of nowhere.
  • President Eisenhower Visits Korea

    President Dwight D. Eisenhower visited Korea in hopes of getting closer to the end of the Korean War. He planned to only use force (nuclear weapons) if peace negotiations did not begin to move forward.
  • Korean War Officially Over

    After three years of fighting, there was finally a signed armistice on July 27, 1953. South Korea got an extra 1,500 square miles of territory out of this agreement. About five millions soldiers and civilians lost their lives during this war.
  • Cease-fire Signed

    This was the signed armistice that ended the Korean War. Also, this ended America's first experiment with the Cold War concept of "limited war." All sides were ready to sign this agreement, ending the bloody war.
