The Korean War

  • Korea divided between North & South - 38th Parallel Division

    After World War II, Korea was divided into a North and South Korea. The North was controlled by the USSR and was Communist whereas the South was US controlled and was obviously not Communist. This was a big part of the Cold War.

    Stalin didn't think the time was right for a war in Korea, so he removed some of his troops and in turn so did the US. (Not the actually day)

    Thousands of reservists were called for duty in a strong brigade known as the 29th Brigade. It was mobilized in England and got to Korea when things were calmed down and it seemed that the war was over. (Don't know actual day)

    In the election between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon, the Korean war becomes a hot topic and very important as to how each person would handle the situation.

    Negotiations drag on until 1953 and war is settled with the establishment of a DMZ (demilitarized zone) on each side of the 38th parallel.
