Hassans rape(chapter 7)
During Hassans rape, "Assef knelt behind Hassan, put his hands of Hassan's hips and lifted his bare buttocks. He kept one hand on Hassan's back and undid his own belt buckle with his free hand"(75). Assef forcively took both his and Hassan's pants off. Hassan aware of what was going to happen "Hassan didn't stuggle. Didn't even whimper."(75). Hassan took it like a man and allowed himself to get raped knwoing he could not do anything to help himself -
Amirs 13th birthday
"I turned thirteen that summer of 1976, Afganistans next to last summer of peace and anonymity"(93). This was also the year that Ali quit working for Baba and decieded to leave with Hassan. They then decieded to go live with their cousin somewhere else. At this time Amir and Hassan did not talk and Amir never even got to say goodbye. -
Baba and Amir are now living in Freemont California
Baba wanted to move away from Kabul and "Baba loved the idea of America. It was living in America that gave him an ulcer"(125). Baba's dream was to move to America which he finally did in the 1800s. They both moved into Freemont California and started having a normal life their. -
Escaping Kabul and going to Jalalabad
Back in Kabul trusting people was even becoming an issue, "In the morning, Jalaluddin-our seventh servant in five years-would probrably think we'd gone out for a stroll or a drive. We hadn't told him. You couldn't trust anyone in Kabul anymore."(112). This shows it was getting too hard to live in Kabul and you had to be weary on who you told things too because they may not be trustworhy. Baba could not even tell their own servant where they had gone unless he wanted everyone to know they left. -
Amir graduates for high school
Amir inrolled in high school in california and "That summer of 1983, I graduated at the age of twenty"(131). He was very old for his age but succefully graduated. Baba could not be prouder of Amir when this happened. -
Amir's first time talking to Soraya
His first time talking to Soraya was in a flea market and they bonded over Amir's writing. He asks her "Would you like to read one of my stories?"(147). She then responds, "I would like that"(147). Amir was very grateful he met Soraya and became instant friends because he soon marrys the girl. -
Baba finds out he has cancer
In the summer of 1985 Baba is diagnosed with cancer. The doctors tell him he needs medical attention but Baba refuses and responds with "But no chemo medication for me"(1560. Amir tried to change his mind but Baba is set on not getting treatment. He is aware he will son die though, but accepts it. -
Amir publishes his first book
In the summer of 1988 Amir finally finishes his first book, "Six weeks later, a man named Walter Greenwalt called from New York and offered to represent me"(183). Amir was very proud of himsef for accomplishing his first book. Publishers notice him and offer him help which makes him feel very suscceful amd happy with himself. -
Hassan's son is delivered
Winter of 1990 Hassan's son is delivered, "It's Sanubar who delivers Hassan's son"(211). This was a very proud moment of Hassan. Rahim was there and tells Amir the story about it. -
Amir and Soraya try to have a baby
In all Amir and Sorayas attepmts to concieve a baby they are very unfortunate and Soraya accepts it and says "Maybe it wasn't meant to be"(186). Soraya is very distraught about it but learns to except it. She knows that it is not meant to be and Amir learns to accept it as well. -
Hassan and his wife are killed
Rahim tells the story on how Hassan and his wife were killed in Baba's house. "-and shot him in the back of the head"(219). This is how Rahim explains to Amir how Hassan was murdered. He says how the Talaban intruded into the house and killed him for being a hazara and would not believe he lived there. -
Amir gets a call to see Rahim Khan
Rahim tells Amir he wants him to come to Pakistan to see him, "Rahim is very sick"(191), he tells his wife. Amir explains to Soraya about Rahims conditions. He then deciedes he is going to go back to Pakistan to visit Rahim and make sure he is okay. -
Amir discovers Hassans letters
Amir sees letters that Hassan left him saying "And i dream that one day you will return to Kabul to visit the land of our childhood"(218). Rahim shows Amir the letters and Amirr begin to feel guilty. He is sad about never making things right with Hassan. -
Amir learns Hassan is his brother
Rahim Khan explains to Amir that Baba is Hassan's father as well. Amir does not take it well and shouts, "Im thirty-eight years old and I've just found out my whole life was a big fucking lie!"(223). Amir is furious with the new information he learns about. He also relaizes so many things and many more things about Baba and Ali become clear. -
Amir rescues Sohrab
Soharb was stuck in an orphange after Hassan died, but amir traveled to the orpahanage and took Sohrab in as his won. "And so it was that, about a week later, we crossed a strip of warm, black tarmac and I brought Hassan's son from Afghansitan to America"(356), Sohrab is out of the orphanage now thanks to Amir and now can enjoy his life in America. Amir thought this was the way to atone his mistakes and be forgiven by Hassan.
