Longboarding originated in Oahu, Hawaii. When the waves were too small or dull for surfers they would longboard, because longboarding immitates the same movements they would do on surfboards. It would help them practice when there was no waves.

Usually, surfers were the onlt ones that would longboard. Sometime during 1959 longboards hit the market and people other than surfers started buying them. Some bought them and used them for compettitons and some bought them just to cruise.

During the 70's alot of things became popular and started developing. One of them was skaters empting pools and using them to skate in. Also skateparks became more popular as well.

In 1973 is when skateboarding/longboarding became more popular. Urethane wheels started to appear and they were wheels that were stronger and faster than the metal wheels previously used.

Skateparks started becoming less and less popular during the 80s. One because of the high insurance costs and two because of lawsuits that drove many parks out of bussiness.

Tony Hawk and many other celeberties started boarding and inspired young men who previously boarded in their younger years began to start skate/long board again.

Snowboarding began in the 1990's and it is similar to longboarding. This caused longboarding to make a big comeback and it became much more popular once again.

During the 1990's as longboarding made a comeback people learned to do tricks on them and it became a serious sport. They put longboarding in events like the X Games and World Cup Skateboarding.

As longboarding rose and fell again and again during 93' is when skateboarding made its final comeback and the longboarding industry grew.

As in the 90's when longboarding made its comeback, it is still very popular to this day. I ride longboards all the time and when I look around many other people do too. There is many popular distrubters such as Sector 9 and Santa Cruz boards. Even WalMart sells longboards now.
