    Tactical Studies Rules (TSR) was a company formed in October of 1973. It invented and marketed the game Dungeons and Dragons, until its being bought by Wizards of the Coast in 1997.

    The actual release date for Original Dungeons and Dragons, or OD&D, is unknown, but it was released sometime in 1974. There was originally three booklets, all written as if the player previously knew how to play a similar game. The first 1,000 hand-assembled copies proved popular and sold quickly. This prompted TSR to create more copies and eventually more versions of the game.
