    Early Animation
    In the 1800s, the earliest examples of animated cartoons are developed. In 1831, the phenakistoscope is developed by Belgian Joseph Plateau and the Austrian Simon von Stampfer, which spins a series of images, giving the illusion of animation.     The First Animated Film and Stop-Motion
    Created by James Stuart Blackton in 1906, this is widely regarded as the first animated film on standard picture film. The film uses the animation technique of stop-motion. Stop-motion moved an object in small increments for each photo, creating animated motion.

    Traditional Animation
    The 1908 film Fantasmagorie by Emile Cohl is the first animated film to use traditional animation technique. This film would utilize frame by frame drawings projected onto rolls of film. The method of drawing each frame would be the dominant animation method until computer animation. At this point, animation has massively increased in popularity and will continue to do so with the advent of creators like Walt Disney.

    The First Feature Length Computer-Animated Film
    On November 22, 1995, Toy Story, the first feature length computer animated film, is released. With this, traditional animation becomes more and more outdated and more and more animations begin to be created utilizing computer animation. Computer animation uses computer software like Maya to create 3D or 2D objects and animate them. Using a computer is far easier to create long movies than drawing each individual frame by hand.

    Flash Animation
    The first Flash-Aimated film, Wizards and Giants, is released on November 19th, 2003. Flash animation is a film or cartoon created in Adobe Flash or similar software and used the ,swf file. The term "flash animation" also refers to the type of movement and style seen in flash animations.
