    The Magic Lantern was a very early version of the projector. Invented in 1650 by Christiaan Huygens in France, for the first time it allowed people to see images on a wall. It used pictures, a lens, and a bright light and could display moving pictures. This helped develop animation further, because it led to more advanced versions of animation tools that could display moving picture on the wall.

  • Thaumatrope

    Thaumatrope
    an optical toy popular in the 19th century. It is Aadisk with a drawing on each side attached to two pieces of string. When the strings are twirled quickly the two pictures appear to blend.
    Thaumatropes are often seen as important predicesors of motion pictures, in particular of animation, because it was 1 of the first devices that appeared to show a moving picture. Even though it was actually a still picture.

    Zoetrope
    The Zoetrope was invented in 1834 England by William Horner. It was based on Plateau's phenakistoscope, but was better. It didn't require a viewing mirror and allowed more than 1 person to use it at the same time. It has a simple drum with an open top, supported on an axis. The user puts pictures on strips of paper, Slots are cut at equal distances and it is spun to create motion.
