    Shortly after Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan left Lea they were heading to Howland Island which was their next refuel stop on July 2nd. They lost radio contact with the U.S. coast Guard cutter Itasca which at the time he was on the Howland island. President Franklin D. Roosevelt then authorized a huge search for Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan. But after two weeks of searching for the two and not finding them they where declared lost at sea on July 19th 1937, Amelia Earhart was 40 years old.
