Alien and Sedition Acts
President John Adams issued this set of laws so any foreigners who were thought to be a threat were deported or imprisoned. It also stated that you had to live in the U.S. for 14 years before becoming a citizen. Many people did not like these laws and states passed opposing laws causing the plan to fail. -
War With Tripoli
North African states were receiving money from the U.S. and they needed more but the U.S. refused to pay. Louisiana Purchase
Thomas Jefferson bought land to the west of the Mississippi River from France for around $15 million dollars.this caused the United States' land to double in size. Jefferson also sent Lewis and Clarke to explore the new land. Image Source: shmoop.com -

President James Madison declared a war on Britain in 1812. The British burned down the white house but also lost Native American support.Their were many Naval Battles, the U.S. won many. their was no clear winner but it resulted in Andrew Jackson and William Henry becoming President. Monroe Doctrine

Tariff of Abominations
John Quincy Adams approved of these taxes. they made foreign goods more expensive to buy especially if they did not have that industry in their region. this caused the south to have to pay more for manufactured goods but lost money on raw materials because other countries bought less of them. The Indian Removal Act
In 1830 Andrew Jackson helped push the Indian Removal Act. This act caused 5 tribes to move far to the west into the Indian Territory. 15,000 Cherokee people were forced into military stockades. 4,000 Cherokees died of starvation but the U.S. gained land. Image source: www.history.state.gov
