    Secretary of State George Marshall announces his plan to aid Europe. World War II had caused serious ecomic disaster to Western Europe. The United States was to do whatever was able to be done so that they could return to their normal economic health.

    The Soviets blockade West Berlin. The blockade turned out to be a bad move by the Soviets. Later the United States has a confrontation with them but with a renewed purpose.

    A millitary alliance among the United States, Canada, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iceland, Italy, Britain, Denmark, Norway, and Portugal. Expanded and included Greece, Turkey, and West Germany to establish security against the Soviet Union.

    The U.S Senator Joseph McCarthy starts a campain against suspicios "communists". He is speaking to people from West Virginia and while speaking he claims to have names of 205 of people that were members of the Communist Party who were working in the State Department.

    Teens started rebelling against the world of their parents. They started listening to different music, doing the dances that they wanted too, watched different music, and used slang. The teenagers started going their on way.

    Rock 'n' roll became popular within all the teenagers. The singer Elvis Presley was idolized by all the teens. Most teen guys wanted to have his visual apperance. Teens would gather at school gyms to have "sock hops".

    On June 1950 the Korean War began on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea armed with Soviet weapons invaded South Korea. The United States and United Nations sent forces to help South Korea fight so they wouldn't get overruned by the communist troops of Northern Koreans.

    Americans Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were charged with passing atomic secrets to the Soviet Union. The Soviet documents confirmed that Julius had spied for the Soviet Union. They were executed after.

    The USSR and Eastern European countries sign the Warsaw Pact. It wasa a pact to establish a military alliance for mutual defence.

    The growth of youth culture was because of two reasons. One was the number of baby boomers enterinng adolescence and the other was affluence. The teenagers started working in part-time jobs and they started earning money.

    This book by William Whyte influenced Americans' on the different side of thr suburbs. That many workers had given up their personalities and desires to conform to the demand. It was a new generation of men.

    The new car Edsel appeared in the Ford showrooms. Automobiles were popular for middle and high-class people. For a period of time cars were used for transportation. Later they became a status symbol for certain people.

    The Soviet Union Launches Sputnik I. Its the size of a beach ball and takes 98 minutes to orbit the Earth.
  • Cuban Revolution triumph.

    Cuban was brought to their attention that the enemy Fulgencio Batista had fled out of the country. This ment that they had one the Revolution.
  • U-2 Spy Plane.

    U-2 Spy Plane.
    The top secret of the U-2 was shot down. it had been kept secret for days. Its mission that day was to photograph denied territory. But the mission was a fail because it was shot by an air missile.
