Cold war

The Cold War

  • Trumans Loyalty Program

After there were many ongoing issues after WW11, Truman feared that there were unloyal employees working for him so he made this law to check every one of the employees. This showed how there was a time of mistrust everwhere because evereyhting was possible at this point for anyone to break down the U.S.
  • Berlin Blockade/ airlift

    Berlin Blockade/ airlift
This was a time where people were becoming desperate after Stalin the former president was blocking any access into the west part of Berlin. This meant that there could no longer be any supplies coming in and this became a huge problem. But the airlift project started dropping off parachutes full of goodies which helped them out but in the end they were being opressed in a sense that Stalin was trying to play the hard way just to convince the U.S. to play by his rules.
  • Advisory Effort in Vietnam

This was a time where vietnemese monks were setting themselves on fire to create this bold political statement about their nation. Since the U.S. became allies with South Vietnam, the U.S. relied on them to make them stronger but in reality South Vietnam was a very weak and corrupt nation. So the U.S. began sending them troops, tanks, ships and anything that would make them a strong ally so the Soviet Union wouldnt see their weakness and take advantage of them.
  • The Second Red Scare

    The Second Red Scare
Senator McCarthy was the most prominent figure during the second red scare because he was trying to basically find any opportunity to bring an issue to the table to become more important in the U.S. At this time, people were beginning to creat working unions and civil rights started being questioned because of this.
  • The Vietnam War

This was a time where thousands of Americans died at war with the Vietnemese. Over 58,000 died and thats when President Nixon decided that he should withdraw from this war.
  • The WarSaw Pact

This is a treaty that was signed by the Soviet Union and 7 othr allies including: Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Bulgaria, and Czechoslovakia. These powers came together so if any outside power wanted to attack any of them, they would be prepared and have enough back up to conserve their nation. This was a very significant event because this showed how all of these nations were finally coming together without setting any barriers (Berlin wall) just to become a strong country.
  • The Space Race

This was the first time that there was a satellite in space. Russia decided to show how they were leading in technology by also placing a Russian dog in space. This was like a threat to the U.S. and a message to let them know that they were advancing and could easily attack the U.S. from outter space (if their were nuclear weapons on the satellites.) This was an event that alarmed Jack Kennedy so he decided to have the first human in space so he would feel ahead of this "competiton."
  • The Sputnik Crisis

    The Sputnik Crisis
This is similiar to the event of the Space Race which basically intimidated Americans becaus the Soviet Union was the first to lauch a satellite in space. This made americans worry about what else they were capable of and this was a crisis according to President Eishenhower because the Soviet Union was showing more innovation which could later lead to them taking over the U.S.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
This was Fidel Castros attempt to overthrow Batista, but when the U.S. found out that Castro was trying to spread his communist ideas, this made the U.S. want to take matters into their own hands and stop Castro. Unfortunatley, the U.S. surrendered and this event marked a time of panic because Castro could easily try to keep spreading his communist ideas into the U.S.
  • The Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall
This wall was referred as the "Anti-Facist Wall" because they didnt want any East Germans to bring any facist idealogies into Berlin. After WW11, there was a huge population of East Germans that needed to come into the other side for jobs since there was a huge economic crisis, but this wall was a symbol that represented the feelings of the other side of Berlin. They didnt want anything to do with more war or problems.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
After the Bay of Pigs, Castro felt as if he should be prepared for next time the U.S. tries to overthrow Cuba, so he asks the Soviet Union for their nuclear weapons to be installed in the island. This is a very prominent event that shows how both of these world powers were trying to work together to ruin the U.S. This lead to the Cuban Missle Crisis and thats when Kennedy announced what the two powers were doing and that the U.S. wouldt stand for that.
  • The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

This event basically approved to expand the Vietnam war. This was important because that meant that the war would be going on even longer and there would be more deaths and just more chaos.
  • The Fall of the Berlin Wall

The Fall of the Berlin Wall
When the East German communist party announced that this wall will no longer have any value and people are weclomed to the west side, this caused everyone to go crazy in sense. Some people literally hammered and picked at the wall to destroy is while others just tried to hop on to the other side. This was a sign that there were no longer any barriers between the germans themselves so they could possibly become a stronger nation but then again they were at a very desperate time.
