  • Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    The Berlin Blockade and Airlift was one of the first international crisis's that began the cold war. As the Soviets and Germany started blocking important supply route's to Berlin. At the time Berlin was barely getting by. Then an idea sprouted from President Truman, that they could avoid the blockade by flying supplies to Berlin. Every day over 5,000 different supplies arrived in Berlin, and was definitely enough to help. This continued for 11 months, before the blockade was finally lifted.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was between North and South Korea, it started when Northern Korea invaded the South. Both gov's of Korea claimed to have the whole country, (was false). North Korea was supported by the Soviets and China, both enemies to USA. The south wasn't ready for the war, and was pushed back into a small area known as "Pusan Perimeter". In September a offensive launch happened, forcing the North back, along with some Chinese troops. Many years later the war ended with an armistice.
  • The Space Race

    The Space Race started in 1961, when a man from the Soviet Union named Yuri Gagarin, was blasted off into space, making him the first man of the Soviet Union the first nation to release a man into orbit. Even though the Soviets were the first into orbit, Kennedy created a challenge to be the first Nation to land a man on the moon by the end of the 60's. Kennedy met that goal with lots of money, failure, and everything in between. On July 20th, 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.
  • U-2 Reconnaissance Plane

    On May 1st, 1960, a U-2 Reconnaissance Plane was shot down by the Soviet Air Defense Forces. The U-2 spy plane was flew by a pilot named Francis Gary Powers. The Plane was performing a photo graphical task of deep Soviet Territory. The plane was hit by a S-75 Dvina surface-to-Air missile. The unlucky pilot and plane crashed near an area called Sverdlovsk.
  • Bay of Pigs

    The Bay of Pigs is an Inlet in Cuba. But on April 17, the area was known as a Failure to the USA. During the night, 1,500 trained Cuban exiles led an attack that was planned to overthrow Castro. The attack was basically a failure for the USA because it failed.
  • Reagan visits the Wall

    On August 8th, 1961, Ronald Reagan goes to Berlin, and visits the wall that is separating East and West Berlin. One of the first things that Reagan says when he see's the wall is "Tear down this Wall!". This sentence was looked at as if Reagan was challenging Gorbachev. This event caused one of Reagan's most-important speeches during that time.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    This crisis is when Russia and the US nearly got into a nuclear war. This all happened because of Russia putting Nuclear missiles in Cuba during November, 1962. The Russians were building missiles in Cuba, but the U.S threatens to invade Cuba and get rid of missiles and any other threat. During this time The soviet troops were ordered to reach the quarantine line, and hold their position.
  • Strategic Arms Limitation Talks

    The Strategic Arms and Limitation Talks happened during a time around 1969. These talks were between the US. and The Soviet Union. The talks were mostly about strategic missiles and there whereabouts and where they would land. These conversations were also about the manufacturing of the missiles along with many other types of dangerous/nuclear weapons that were being made at that time.
  • Soviets invade Afghanistan

    In 1979 the war between the The Soviet Union, and Afghanistan begun. This war lasted about 9 years ending in 1989. What first begun the war was when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. The Soviets did this because they wanted to help reinforce the communist government in Afghanistan. This war cost thousands of troops from both sides, and since it lasted almost 10 years meaning many people were lost.
  • Germany Reunification

    The reunification of Germany was a process where the German Democratic republic became together with the Federal Republic of Germany. Throughout the war Germany had gone through many difficulties. This caused the country to split apart because of differences on views and politics. But on November 9th Germany reunited itself, and gained the power to be a more controlled country.
