Those that supported Communism wanted to make sure that Americans knew that Communism was growing even in America. HUAC made those that believed in Communism state it, no matter the consequences. People in support of such beliefs were fired from jobs and sometimes prosecuted. By October 20, 1947, this pattern had spread to Hollywood and many writers and directors were terminated from their positions.
