  • Chinese Revolution

    Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong declared the creation of the People's Republic of China. (PRC) The announcement ended the costly full-scale civil war between the Chinese Communist Party and the Nationalist Party, which broke out immediately following WWII.
  • The Korean War

    North Korea tried to invade South Korea by going over the DMZ, which is about 2 miles long serpearting Korea in half. This invasion resulting in America getting involved by putting troops on the DMZ so their would be some sort of peace between the two countries.
  • Uprising in Hungary and Czechoslavakia

    It was a spontaneous and nationwide revolt and the government. It was the first major threat to the soviet union since USSR forces drove out the Nazis in WWII.
  • Spunik and the Space Race

    Its launch ushered a new era in technology. With it going into space America thought that now Russia could launch ballistic missiles at the USA with the help of the satellite.
  • Berlin Wall

    August 13, 1961 the berlin wall goes up. Potsdamer Platz was now divided in two. The wall was basically protection from suicide bombers and gun fire from rival sides.
  • U2 plane was shot down.

    A survallence spy plane was shot down, and at first USA denied admitting what it was but then they later told the public what its intent was for; to look for balistic missiles.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    This crisis was basically Russia and USA saying that they have missiles and I am going to use them and they would basically just give each other threats back and forth.
  • Russia Invades Afganistan

    In Christmas 1979, Russian paratroopers landed in Kabal, the capital of Afghanistan. The country was already in the grip of a civil war. The prime minister, Hazifullah Amin, tried to sweep aside Muslim tradition within the nation and he wanted a more western slant to Afghanistan. This outraged the majority of those in Afghanistan as a strong tradition of Muslim belief was common in the country.
