    This was an epic battle of two iron-clad creations on the high seas. Though both were powerful vessels so they could not penetrate each other's hull. It had to end in a draw.

    McClellan defeated Lee nearby but failed to protect Harper's Ferry. Lee took control of it and gained a large amount of supplies. I have actully been here when I was about 11. I remember it well. We visited the John Brown wax museum. It was terrifying.

    Democratic Irishmen were so enraged by the fact they had to risk their lives for the freedom of black that they rioted. It lasted 3 days and killed 105 people, mostly black.

    A brutal hand to hand combat battle in the rain that lasted two days. Bodies were said to be piled four high. The Union suffered more casualties once again.

    This hopeless effort by Grant's army was one of his lst battles of the War. Lee's army pounded Grant's because they had a secure posotion on the field. Grant's army would eventually ferry out the rest of his troops.

    Initially, Lincoln's chances were believed to be slim. He was viewed too lenient by some. But after Sherman's victory in Atlanta, Lincoln regained popularity.

    Grant's army followed Lee out of Petersburg to Appomattox Court House, VA, where he surrendered. Lee's men were released to go home.

    Lincoln was murdered by John Wilkes Booth in a theater. This shocked the nation as anyone could imagine.

    Johnston and Sherman met on three differnt days to negotiate. Johnston finally surrendered his army and other active soldiers, totalling to nearly 90,000 troops.

    Union troops captured Jefferson Davis in Irwin, GA. He was charged with treason and the planning of the assasination of Lincoln. He was actually released two years later.
