General Grant laid seige to Vicksburg to starve out Confederate troops. It was successfull, nearly 30,000 surrendered in 6 weeks. Great moment for Grant.

Democratic Irishmen were so enraged by the fact they had to risk their lives for the freedom of black that they rioted. It lasted 3 days and killed 105 people, mostly black.

Johnston and Sherman met on three differnt days to negotiate. Johnston finally surrendered his army and other active soldiers, totalling to nearly 90,000 troops.

Union troops captured Jefferson Davis in Irwin, GA. He was charged with treason and the planning of the assasination of Lincoln. He was actually released two years later.
