    French and Indian War
    The war was against the French and Indian and lasted until 1763. It resulted in Britain taking over all French lands in North America. It was also the last war fought between European powers in North America before the American Revolution.

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was sent out by George III on October 7th 1763, restricting American settlement to the Eastern Seaboard area. That meant colonists couldnt move further west than the Appalachian mountains.

    The day France and England both signed the Treaty of Paris that ended the war, although the fighting continued several months later.

    Colonists burn Gaspee
    The Rhode Islanders set fire to the Gaspee, burning her to the waterline whereupon her powder magazine exploded. This was the first planned use of force by the colonists. The attack was thought of as treason and an act of war.

    The Boston Tea Party, or the Tea Act. The act was put into place so that Britain could regain control of the tea trade that was going on in America. It was also to rescue the British East India Company. The act made it so that colonists could only buy their tea from the British East India Company.

    The Boston Tea Party took place because of the taxes put onto the colonists. Because of this action colonists were punished with the Coercive Acts. Each one of the full container barrels had a weight of 400 pounds. Half-containers were 100 pounds each. The destroyed tea was worth an estimated £10,000. In today’s money this would be approximately equal to a million dollars.

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    On the evening of April 18th, the British troops were ferried across the Bosten harbor to start their march on Lexington. Paul Revere hung two lanterns on the church steeple to warn the people.The Britians were outnumbered in this battle. Several Americans were killed.
