Ho Chi Minh became president of the DRV ( The Democrativ Republic of Vietnam).

The First Indochina War begins. The war contains the Vietminh from the north of vietnam and of the French Union. The french had colonies set up in Vietnam at the time.

The french had stated an option for the DRV by proposing the Peace Terms but Ho Chi Minh refused such terms.

French troops had succesfully taken control over Dien Bien Phu. By the time December of 1953 came around, they had set up a complex housing their troops.

The Vietminh, for the first time, fired at the French who were stationed at Dien Bien Phu. The Vietminh themselves had been based in the jungle staying virtually invisible.

Since the only way to obtain materials and goods in Dien Bien Phu was by air. This was when the Vietminh interfered with the materials being brought by air.

Since the Vietminh advanced slowly into the French's Territory at Dien Bien Phu, they had most of the control of the airfeild. This made materials or parachuters to dropping nearly impossible. This led to the arms and materials flown in for the French being taken by the Vietminh instead.

After 56 days of fighting, the Vietminh take over Dien Bien Phu with over 7,000 French Casualties and over 11,000 French prisoners.
