  • The Stamp Act

    The stamp act is a law that said that every paper product with a specific stamp on it has a tax on it.

  • The Intolerable Acts

    In retaliation to the Boston Tea Party, British Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts) to punish Massachusetts and raise taxes.

  • Lexington & Concord

    Hundreds of British troops marched to Concord to capture a Sons of Liberty weapons cache. The British troops were ambushed by local militia along the way and had to retreat by the time they made it to Concord

  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Continental Congress passed the Declaration of Independence to free themselves from the rule of Britain. The document summarized the colonist’s motivations.

  • The Battle of Yorktown

    George Washington took 17,000 troops to fight 9,000 soldiers lead by Lord Charles Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia.

  • The End of the Revolutionary War

    The Patriots beat the British forces with assistance from France. This won the colonists independence from Britain.

  • The Constitution is written

    Delegates arrive in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to write a Constitution and amend the Articles of Confederation.

  • The First President

    The first election was won by George Washington. John Adams with the 2nd largest number of votes, became the Vice President.
