    Written to give Americans inspiration during dark times. It encouraged soldiers to keep fighting. A famous line was, "These are the times that try men's souls" (Paine). This event helped encourage and motivate the American soldiers.

    On Christmas night Washington and his troops went across Delaware's icy River. The conditions were bad but they still marched overnight to launch a surprise attack on Trenton, this move ended with them coming out as the victors. This event showed Washington's well leadership.

    After crossing the river, Washington and his soldiers surprise attacked the soldiers of Trenton. Americans captured over 900 of the Trenton soldiers and suffered few loses. This event boosted American soldiers confidence and soldiers wanted to stay in the army.

    Washington was defeated by British forces, they also took Philadelphia, forcing out the Continental Congress. Washington would try to retake the city but would fail. Philadelphia became the British capital for a short period. This event was a small setback for the Americans.

    Americans defeated the British General Burgoyne's army in New York, after being surrounded. This boosted moral throughout the American army. This event lead to France joining the war on America's side.

    Winter at Valley Forge

    George Washington's army had to undergo a tough winter at Valley Forge. They also went through hunger, disease, and not enough supplies to keep them going, this lead to many soldiers dying or left behind because of their condition. However they did receive training from Baron von Steuben, this greatly boosted the army's discipline and lead to the soldiers coming out stronger and more ready for later battles.

    At Yorktown after weeks of siege and being surrounded by American and French forces British General Cornwallis surrendered his army. This win lead to peace talks.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The treaty that ended the Revolutionary war. Britain recognized the United States as independent, also gave them land going to the Mississippi River. This event secured the Americans Independence.
