The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a stretch of land purchased by Thomas Jefferson and announced on July 4, 1803. The Louisiana Purchase makes up most of today's region of the U.S. Midwest. When Thomas Jefferson bought it, he was concerned that he may or may not find a route to the Pacific Ocean to make trading routes. The main reason he wanted to buy the land was because of the city of New Orleans. He wanted to jump on the deal because it only cost $15 million for all the land (14 cents an acre). -
