First Engish Settlement
The first English settlement was established and was led by Sir Walter Raleigh. Along with 100 men and women. -
Roanoke
The Roanoke colony had vanished. -
The Tobacco Colonies
King James I divided the Atlantic border into two, by putting the Southern half to London Company and the northern half to the Plymouth Company -
Peace
Powhatan finally accepted peace with the English. -
The House of Burgesses
This was the first meeting of the House of Burgesses. This was the first legislative assembly there was in the American colonies. -
Plymouth
A small group of puritan separatists (later called Pilgrims) arrived in Plymouth. -
Massachusetts Bay Company
Masachusetts Bay Company set a larger ad more liberal group of Puritans to establish another Massachusetts settlement -
Maryland
The English crown granted 12 million acres of land at the top of Chesapeake Bay to Cecilius Calvert.
Maryland was very simiar to Virginia because they both had big plantaions to grow tobacco.
This colony, Maryland bacame know for its policy of religious toleration for all. -
Territories
King Charles II gave territory between New England and Virginia, but this was already taken by the Dutch traders and landowners.

New York
English soon absorbed New Dutch Netherlands, which has been remaned to New York.
New York is a very diverse and prosperous colony. -
New Colonies
Connectiut and New Haven were established, mostly because Massachusetts was not religious enough.
Rhode Island was created, because Massachusetts was too restrictive.
New Hampshire was created because adventurous settler formed this one. -
Eve of the Revolution
On the eve of the Revolution, there were abour 2.5 million settlers. This is a huge difference from five years ago because there was only 250,000 European and African settlers in the thirteeen colonies
