The Viet Cong attacked the U.S. embassy in Saigon. This was meant to deal a political and psychological blow to the U.S. public. An elite team of VC sappers attacked the embassy at early light, immediately achieving several objectives. The U.S. fought back hard though and the sappers were all killed. Despite this military failure, it had a profound psychological impact on the American public.
