Yosemite National Park
Upon noticing the beautiful meadows of Yosemite were being destroyed by domestic sheep grazing, environmentalist John Muir and Robert Underwood Johnson lobbied for Yosemite to gain government protect as a national Park. William McKinley Assassination
On September 6, 1901 President William McKinley was assassinated by Leon Czolgosz. After seemingly to recover from an emergency surgery, McKinley died eight days later after the initial shot. McKinley's Vice President Roosevelt then succeeded him in presidency. -
Energy Crisis

Roosevelt decided to run for again in 1912. Unfortunately the republican party had voted Taft to be their candidate. Roosevelt didn't let this stop him, with a large group of supporters he ran as the third party candidate and formed the Bull-Moose Party.
