    Magic Lantern, Chaklboard and Pencils

    Technology included a slide projector with images printed on glass plates. Then in 1890 Chalkboards entered the classrooms followed by pencils in 1900

    Radio, overhead projectors, pens and headphones

    During this time the radio created a new way for any student to learn within listening range. Following the radio came the overhead projector in 1930, the pen in 1940 and headphones in 1950.

    Technology for convenience

    In 1959 the photocopier was created and the handheld calculator followed in 1972 making it easier for teachers to produce teaching materials and students to quickly make calculations. The Scantron system for testing allowed tests to be graded more efficiently.

    Computers

    The first computers were made in the 1930's, however it wasn't until 1980's that computers and laptops began to show up in homes. PDAs were released by apple in 1993 and by 2009 97%of classrooms had one or more computers and 93% had internet.
  • World Wide Web

    Was created by a British researcher developed HTML and restrictions on the internet was removed in 1993, causing an explosion of various communication methods and classroom use.

    Social Media

    With the creation of MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and the likes, students and educators had new platforms to communicate, engage in and use for teaching resources. New social media sites and apps are being developed all the time, finding the right fit for educational use is up to instructors and educational organizations.
  • Future Challenges in the Changing of Technology

    Educators are faced now more than ever the need to stay well-informed and educated in the current technologies available in the classroom as well as potential ones coming out soon. The need for teachers highly educated in this area are increasingly necessary for the success of our schools.
