    The first escalator was created as a novelty ride at Coney Island, a theme park in New York.

    The inventor of the first modern day bra, Mary Phelps Jacob, wanted something more comfortable that was also supportive to wear under her dresses. Corsets were the style and wearing them everyday all the time was very straining on both the chest and backs of women.
  • Frozen Food

    Frozen Food
    Clarence Birdseye is first credited with the invention of flash freezing. While working in Canada Birdseye would fish for food and as he pulled them up out of the water they would freeze. He found that if he kept them frozen they would retain their taste months later when he rethawed them. The fact that they froze so quickly is what makes the taste remain for when they are thawed later.

    Alexander Fleming came home from a vacation and found mold growing on a petri dish, this mold prevented the staphylococcus bacteria from spreading and he used this to discover the antibiotic Penicillin. This led to the advancement of other antibiotics and helped reduce the amount of deaths due to infection.

    In 1937, Edwin H. Land created the company Polaroid which is best known for their instant film cameras.The camera uses a complex system of chemicals to instantly take and print the photo you've taken instead of having to process the photos in fluids. He first showed off the invention in 1947.

    The invention of Nylons were not only for the use of women to replace silk hosiery, but it was also very beneficial in WWII. The material was used for parachutes and made into rope for airplane parts.
