Grammar Translation Method
This method is the one where student focuses on reading and writing and the translation from the target language to the native language, they need to understand the meaning of the Words i their native language to translate to the target language, to use this method is necessary to avoid the use of the native language in the classroom to make sure the students practice the speaking in the target language. -
Direct Method
Is a method based on the observation in this particular way the student learns the target language through conversation, discussion and reading in one's own language with this method is not necessary to use translation and Is not necessary to study the grammar or the rules of a language. The students need to communicate only in the target language is based in the use of the target language instead of the grammar and structure. -
Audio Lingual Method /
This method is an oral –based style to drills student in the use un grammatical sentence patterns. The students follow the teacher and imitate or repeat everything the teacher said, is like the teacher were an orchestra leader the teacher gives one example and the student follow the pattern till they understand. -
Silent Way
The method emphasizes learner autonomy and active student participation. Silence is used as a tool to achieve this goal; the teacher uses a mixture of silence and gestures to focus students' attention, to elicit responses from them, and to encourage them to correct their own errors. -
Suggestopedia
The theory applied positive suggestion in teaching when it was developed in the 1970s. However, as the method improved, it has focused more on "desuggestive learning" and now is often called "desuggestopedia" Suggestopedia is a portmanteau of the words "suggestion" and "pedagogy" -
Total Physical Response (TPR)
This method is a total physical response to communicate with movements, the teacher makes movements to communicate the words and to receive a response from the students
Instructional TPR is the physical movement that´s give instructions to the students and the student respond to the instruction -
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)
It focuses on the importance of students using English to exchange information which is integral to events and experiences relevant to their daily lives is important the language is relevant to their real word context. Ordering food, going to the bank, asking for information everything need to be in a real word context -
Task Based Method
This method is a lesson structure. In TBL students solve a task that implicates and authentic practice of the target language.
Is a part of communication approach, the teacher starts the lesson explaining the activity and there is warm up where the teacher says hi to all students and then there is a brain storm based on the subject and the teacher explain the new vocabulary.
Pre task to prepare the students for the upcoming task. -
The Lexical Approach
This method is based on the idea that language is not just traditional grammar and vocabulary but the language is also using “multi word prefabricated chunk” (Levis1997) this is a group of words that are usually found together for example; Good Morning, Nice to meet you and How are you? these are an example of lexical chunk.
Vocabulary is the vehicle needed to express ideas. Classroom practice is fundamental.
