A really important and historic group during the British tax acts. They also helped a lot during the revolutionary war. They were formed during the Stamp Act Crisis. -
Stamp Act
The stamp act was a tax that was put on stamps, paper, newspapers, and almost all paper products. This continued to anger the colonists even more. -
Stamp Act Crisis
The colonists hated the Stamp act and formed organizations such as the Sons of Liberty and the Daughters of Liberty. They protested in the streets and attacked and harassed tax collectors. -
Declaratory Act
This act repealed the Stamp Act. The British however still asserted their authority to tax the colonists whenever they wanted. -
Boston Massacre
A mob of patriots that were protesting the Townshend Acts started to get violent. British soldiers shot into the crowd killing 5 people. -
Tea Act
This act was a tax on tea, glass, paper and paint. -
Boston Tea Party
A protest by the Patriots on the Tea Act. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
These acts were meant to punish Boston for the Boston Tea Party. The act closed Boston Harbor until they made up the money from the tea. Allowed commanders to house British troops wherever.
