1922
Major events;
1.) four white boys were harassing Nel, and Sula. Sula cuts off her finger to scare them away.
2.) Sula heard her mother talking about her, says she loves her but doesn't like her.
3.) chicken little dies, from drownding.The girls become closer after the funeral.
Major characters;
Sula: main character, kills chicken little on accident, she greives and feels bad
Nel: Another main character,calms sula
Hannah: Sula's mother pretty sexually activive

1923
Major events:
-2nd strange thing: Hannah ask Eva if she had ever loved them and asked about Eva killing Plum.
-3rd strange thing: Hannah has the "Dream" about a wedding in the Red Dress.
-Hannah died by burning. *Sula watched Hannah burn. -
1927
Major Event: The wedding of Jude and Nel, during the wedding we learn of Judes doubts and view of marriage and we see the attraction he has towards Sula. Peruhyaps foreshadowing.
Major Character and roles:
Nel: The main character in this chapter. (The wife)
Jude:m Husband and pont of rising conflict.
Helene: Not necessarily a main character but it is important to not thwe difference in her behavior from normal life to the wedding.
Sula: More of an object of obsession then a main character. -
Chapter 1937
Major Envents;
- Sula comes back to Medallion, accompanied by a plague of robins.
- Sula has a confortation with Eva and sends her to an old folks home.
-Sula saw Nel after seperation of 10years.
-Sula slept with Jude and Nel walks in on it.
-Jude left Nel and the children.
-Nel has a breakdown after being betrayed by both Jude and Sula. -
1939
Major Events:
Community decides Sula is "evil" (Mr. Finley chokes, Teapot pushed down stairs)
Ajax enters Sula's life, she discovers what possesion is, and he leaves; Sula is deeply hurt by this -
1940
Major Events: Nel and Sula have a confrontation about Jude, Sula justifies her behavior, Sula claims that the people of the Bottom will eventually love her, Sula explains that she may have been the issue, not Nel. Sula dies, thinking about Nel. Major characters: Sula and Nel. Sula ceases to be the antagonist, seems regretful. Genuinely seems appologetic.
Nel in her confrontation with Sula comes accross as attacking, perhaps becoming the antagonist in the process??? -
Chapter 1941
Major Events;
-The death of Sula was good news to the community of the Bottom.
-Eva is transfered to a nicer old folks home, with mixed races.
-Shadrack leads his Suicide Day Parade and the community participates.
-The tunnel collapses killing many (Tar baby, the Dewies, Dessie, Ivy, and Valentine).
- Shadrack realizes that the dead woman (Sula) was the visitor he saw as a child and tells us about her leaving her belt behind. -
Chapter 1965
Major Events:
-Nel goes to the old people's home to visit Eva
-Eva ask Nel why she killed (watched) Chicken Little and Nel has her realization about her reaction to the drowning--was as if she had just expierenced a joyful event.
-Nel realizes it was Sula she had missed all along, not Jude
