    The Crusades were religious wars between the Christians and the Muslims. They were fighting over Jerusalem which was considered the Holy Land. It's important because they discovered new things like spices , food , etc.

    The Black Death was also known as the Plague. It was a disease that wiped out 1/3 of Europe. The disease was contracted from fleas that were on black rats. It's important because it brought the Midlle Ages to an end.

    Bartolomev Dias believed he could reach India by sailing around the tip of Africa. In1487 , he led an expedition to reach India , but he only made it to South Africa. It's important because he inspired other people to come up with better ideas to reach India.

    Christoper Columbus was Italian and he believed that if you sailed West you would reach the East. He had 3 ships which King Ferdinand and Queen Isabell had given him. The names of the three ships were Nina , Pinta , and the Santa Maria. He never reached the US but he did ,ake it to the Carribbean.

    Martin Luther was a monk who began to question the ways of the church. So , on October 31 , 1517 he posted the famous 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg Church. He was asked to recant his 95 Theses but he refused. He was then excommunicated and formed his own church.

    Cortes Defeat of Aztecs
    Cortes went to Mexico trying to find gold in 1518. He soon got what he wanted but he had brought multiple diseases to the Aztecs. The diseases later wiped out the entire empire.

    In 1532 , the Anglican Church was established by King Henry VIII. He formed the church in order to be able to divorce his wife. The pope who was in control of the church wouldn't allow him so he seperated England from the Catholic Church. It wasn't such a good thing because he know controlled the Church and the Country.

    In 1607 , King James I gave permission to 144 men to start a colony in Virginia. It was named Jamestown in honor of him. However , things didn't go so well for them. The land was very swampy and it wasn't good at all. In 1608 , 200 more colonists arrive and by 1609 only 53 people reamin.
    It was important because it was the first ever colony.

    Carolina was established in 1663. In 1729 they split into North and South Carolina. They sold Native Americans as slaves to the Carribbean.

    IIn 1664 , King Charles from England claimed New Netherlands as his own. He named it after his brother , Duke of York. In 1702 New Jersey seperated from New York.

    The Proclamtion act was when England was broke. The wars had left them broke and they didnt want any more since it was costly. This act didn't allow colonist to go past they Ohio River Valley. It is importat because if it hadn't existed the colonists wouldn;t have been able to done what they did.

    Dred Scott was a slave. He "belonged" to a military doctor who lived in Missouiri. They went to Wisconsin, while in Wisconsin, the doctor died. Wisconsin was a free state. He now claimed to be free since his "owner" died. Then the docotrs family comes to collect their inheritance. Dred was included in the inheritance and so thye wanted him to. He sues for his freedom. The Supreme Court rules in favor of slaves are property. This was important because it was one of the first Civil Rights cases.

    The Battle of Gettysburg only lasted 3 days but it managed to be the turning point of the Ciivil War. The first day General Robert E. Lee had led an attack. The second day Gen.Chamberlain had secured the hill , where they could see almost everything. On the final day , Gen.Pickett attacked the ridge but the Union had forced the Confederate to retreat. It's important because it was a victory for the Union and it had been a turning point for the Civil War.

    King Henry VIII needed a boy to pass the throne but his wife Catherine had a miscarriage then she has a baby boy but it dies 52 days later. After she has two more miscarriages and then she has a girl. King Henry didn't like that and he was becoming frustrated and wants to divorce her but the church wont let him do that. So he creates his own church and divorces her. After a few more wives he falls in love with Anne Boleyn and she gives hi, a boy but she dies during birth.
