"Stonewall" Jackson

    Stonewall Jackson was born in Clarksburg, Virginia. (Which is now know as West Virginia.) He was the third child of Julia Beckwith Jackson and Jonathan Jackson.

  • First Battle of Bull Run

    This was fought in Fairfax County and Prince William County, Virginia. This was the first major battle of the civil war. A brigade of virginians under Thomas Jackson stood their ground, which is how Jackson got his nickname "Stonewall" Jackson. This was that of a Confederate victory.
  • Second Battle of Bull Run

    This battle was fought from August 28 - 30. Against Robert E. Lee and John Pope. This battle also happened at Prince William County, and was also a confederate victory. There were approx. 10,000 casualties and wounded for the United States, and 1,300 casualties and 7,000 wounded for the Confederacy.
  • Battle of Antietum

    This battle happened near Sharpsburg, Maryland and Antietum Creek. It is known as the first major battle of the Civil war to take place on Union soil. Also known as the bloodiest day in American history with about 23,000 casualties including both sides. This was between Robert E. Lee and George B. McClellan. It was a Union victory.
  • Battle of Fredricksburg

    This happened on December 11 - 15 in Spotsylvania County and Fredricksburg, Virginia. This was between Robert E. Lee and Ambrose Burnside. The terrible frontal attacks against the Confederate defenders is said to be one of the most one sided battles of the Civil War. This was another Confederate victory.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    This battle happened for April 30 - May 6 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It was between Joeseph Hooker, Robert E. Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson. This was known as Lee's "perfect battle" because he decided to divide his army against an army much bigger than his and it resulted in a major Confederate victory.
  • "Stonewall" Jackson died

    He was age 39 when he died at Guniea Station, Virginia. He was shot in the arm and had to have it amputated. A result of this was complications of pnumonia. He was buried in the Stonewall Jackson memorial cemetary in Lexington, Virginia, and the arm was buried in the wilderness of Orange County, near the field hospital.
