    Company was losing money due to colonial boycotts. The British allowed the company to sell tea to colonists, free of tax. The British thought the colonists would buy the cheaper tea, but they revolted instead.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The British shut down the Boston Harbor, (Quartering Act) British commanders could house soldiers in private homes and (Martial Law) rule by military force.
  • Lexington and Concord

    British troops were sent to take away the colonists' weapons and while they were there, they ran into an irritated and amateur militia who defeats the 700 British soldiers. This surprise victory boosts the colonists' confidence for the coming war.
