    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was the North American conflict in a larger imperial was between Great Britain and France known as the Seven Years' War. It began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. After the war however Britain expected the colonist to pay a huge amount of their was debt and often passes taxes without colonial representation.

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act of 1765 was the first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British government. The act, which imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies, came at a time when the British Empire was deep in debt from the Seven Years’ War and looking to its North American colonies as a revenue source.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Parliament passes a modified version of the Sugar and Molasses Act which was about to expire. It was designed to raise revenue from the American Colonists in the 13 colonies. The purpose of the Sugar act was to reduce the rate of tax on molasses from six pence to three pence per gallon- but ensured the new tax could be collected by increased British military presence and controls.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    It was a series of British acts passed beginning in 1767 and relating to the British American Colonies in North America. The acts are named after Charles Townshend. It set new import taxes on British goods including paint, paper, lead, glass and to pay the salaries of some Royal Officials who were appointed to work in the American Colonies. Also places at three cent tax one tea a very popular drink among colonist.
  • Boston Massacre

    British soldiers, who were quartered in the city, fire into a rioting mob killing five American civilians in the Boston Massacre. British troops had been sent to Boston in 1768 to maintain order, protect the customs officers and to enforce the Townshend Acts.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Colonists disguised as Indians there the contents of several hundred chests of tea into the harbor as a protest against British taxes on tea and against the monopoly granted the East India Company. The British allowed the company to sell tea directly to colonies free of tax.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were passed in 1774 to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. There were 3 main acts: Boston Port Bill, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Government Act. Shut down the Boston Harbor.

    The battle of Lexington and Concord started the American Revolutionary War.
