This method was created in order to prepare an argument that holds up to criticism. It's based on a claim, grounds, warrant, backing, qualifier, and rebuttal. The process takes a general claim or thesis to argue and uses data to produce the grounds of an argument. With backing and qualifying data provided, the thesis can then warrant justification of the claim. Here's a short educational YouTube video to better understand:

The argumentation theory is founded. This publication includes the famous method of analyzing arguments known as the Toulmin Method. He believed that arguments needed better justification towards claims in philosophy. In an article on Toulmin's Logical Types, Toulmin is summarized as trying to explain how facts about the past could justify statements about the future, and that we do make predictions about the future from facts about the past.
