    Stalin's Important Events

  • The October Revolution

    The October Revolution
The October Revolution is an event in which the Bolsheviks overtook the Russian government with the elimenation of the Russian monarchy. Stalin used this to his advantage seeing as how had this event not taken place, Russia would still have been mandated by monarchs and Stalin would have never taken up any type of government position. But seeing as how the gate opened for Stalin to join government, he took it and it lead him to have a really powerful position.
  • The 1921 Ban

    The 1921 Ban
A ban on the formation of factions was "temporaraly placed" by Lenin and Trotsky. It was a way to create unity within the Communist Party by having a single party state. No factions or oppositions could be made, making some desicions final and taking the aspects of democracy out of Russia. This aided Stalin in the way that it helped him reduce opposition before he even needed it. Since he controlled who joined Congress, and since there could be no opposition, he gained unlimited support.
  • General Secretary of the Communist Party

General Secretary of the Communist Party
Stalin becomes appointed as General Secretary of the Communist party. This gave Stalin the power to appoint and dismiss members within the Communist party. Stalin was given such a power, because people did not realize what a smart man could do with this position, they believed it would just be a way to keep him busy. In the end, this helped Stalin reach power, since he appointed people that supported the triumvirs and then people who simply supported him as a way to have more power within.
  • Lenin's Testament and Postcript

    Lenin's Testament and Postcript
Almost a year before his death, Lenin was concerned over the Communist party, so he took it upon himself to wrtie out the strengths and weaknesses of the party. In the postscript which was written a couple of weeks later as a follow up, Lenin feared Stalin's current power and feared for Russia if Stalin was to succeed him. As a cause of this, in his postscript he wrote for the removal of Stalin from his current position as a way to ensure the saftey of the party.
  • Formation of the Triumvirs

    Formation of the Triumvirs
Zinoviev, Kamenev and Stalin join forces in order to prevent Tortsky from rising to power. This aided Stalin in his personal rise to power since he would fire Trotsky's supporters and instead, he would hire triumvir supporters to aid him. Theses supporters would eventually end up supporting him. So to speak this was his way of placing his chosen people within the positions of Congress. This also helped take down his biggest enemy, Trotsky, who was a prime candidate to replace Lenin.
  • Lenin's Illness and Death

    Lenin's Illness and Death
The beloved Russian figure Lenin, received his first stroke in May 1922. Lenin had a lot of influence over the Russian people and could have detained Stalin, had the subsequent rest of strokes not reduces his mental illness. Eventually, Lenin passed away January 21, 1924, giving Stalin a direct path to power, since somebody had to replace him.
  • The Disunion of the United Opposition

The Disunion of the United Opposition
Once Zinoviev and Kamenev began to realise that opposing Stalin would mean going against Lenin's ideas of a united government they decided to put a stop to their United Opposition against him. Not only that but they also asked forgivness, including Lenin's spouse. In many ways was Stalin aided by this seeing as how he now had almost no faction secretly working under him since he had caused the disunion of the biggest one amongst them. This was the also the last attempt of Zinoviev to detain him.
  • Trotsky and Others Deported

    Trotsky and Others Deported
In Stalin's eyes, the only way to detain the formation of more opposition groups was to deport all big opposition leaders to distant places around the world. This would ensure the saftey of his power and would cancel communications amongst them. This aided Stalin in so many ways, by having gotten rid of all major people who could have convinced others to turn against Stalin himself. Also this would reduce their influence, since they had no way of communicating with any other Russian civilian.
  • The Creation of Marxism- Lenenism

    The Creation of Marxism- Lenenism
It was posted as the official ideology of Stalin's Russia. It implemented Lenin's ideas with Marx in a twisted way that would benefit Stalin. Also, the purpose of this creation was to hide the postscript which requested the removal of Stalin from power. This gave Stalin support from the people, since many of them did not know the origin of Marx's ideas, they simply oppted to support him since Stalin mentions their hero Lenin in his ideology. This gave Stalin most of the support from the people.
  • The Great Purge

    The Great Purge
This was a dark time in the Soviet Union's history. This was a time in which the "enemy of the people" and the revolutionaries would be repressed, persecuted or executed simply for opposing Stalin's government. This aided Stalin in maintaining his power, since it struck fear into any person who would even consider opposing him. And to those that did, well they were simply silenced, in "good" terms such as repression, or bad terms such as execution.
