Stages of Pregnancy

  • Conception

    Conception
    Conception happens when a sperm penetrates the waiting egg. It does this by releasing enzymes that help to break down the protective cells covering the egg. Once the sperm has entered, the egg immediately closes its outer membrane to any other sperm that have made it this far.
  • Month 1

    Month 1
    A primitive face will take form with large dark circles for eyes. The mouth, lower jaw, and throat are developing. Blood cells are taking shape, and circulation will begin. The tiny heart tube will beat 65 times a minute by the end of the fourth week. The placenta also develops.
  • Month 2

    Month 2
    The baby's facial features continue to develop. Each ear begins as a little fold of skin at the side of the head. Tiny buds that eventually grow into arms and legs are forming. Fingers, toes and eyes are also forming.The brain, spinal cord and other neural tissue of the central nervous system is well formed. The digestive tract and sensory organs begin to develop. Bone starts to replace cartilage.
  • Month 3

    Month 3
    The embryo becomes a fetus when you’re 3 months pregnant. The umbilical cord connects the fetus to your placenta and uterine wall. External sex organs also start to develop. Your baby's reproductive organs also develop. The circulatory and urinary systems are working and the liver produces bile.
  • Month 4

    Month 4
    The nervous system is starting to function at this point in pregnancy. The reproductive organs and genitalia are now fully developed, and your health care provider can see on ultrasound if you are having a boy or a girl. Your baby's heartbeat may now be audible through.
  • Month 5

    Month 5
    The kidneys are fully functional by the end of month five. Your baby will also be producing urine that forms a fair share of the amniotic fluid.Your baby’s skin will be covered in a white greasy substance, which protects the baby’s skin once the baby is born.Endocrine and neural systems start functioning and control the body development.Brain function improves and performs complicated functions.The baby responds to your sounds it can hear your voice, your heartbeat, and music.
  • Month 6

    Month 6
    The formation of two sections of the brain – the middle section and cerebellum – comes to the end. By the end of the sixth month, the brain weighs about 0.2 pounds. The convolutions of the brain become visible, they continue improving and deepening.
    From time to time the baby sleeps and dreams. During its wake, it likes to listen what’s going on and to the mother.
  • Month 7

    Month 7
    Fat begins to be deposited on your baby. Your baby's hearing is fully developed and he or she changes position frequently and responds to stimuli, including sound, pain, and light.
  • Month 8

    Month 8
    You may notice that your baby is kicking more. Baby's brain is developing rapidly at this time, and he or she can see and hear. Most internal systems are well developed, but the lungs may still be immature.
  • Month 9

    Month 9
    His or her lungs are nearly fully developed. Your baby's reflexes are coordinated so he or she can blink, close the eyes, turn the head, grasp firmly, and respond to sounds, light, and touch.
    Your baby's position changes to prepare itself for labor and delivery. The baby drops down in your pelvis, and usually his or her head is facing down toward the birth canal.
