  • Impact of Hobson v. Hansen to Special Education

    This case had an impact for students with disability by ending grouping based on standardized testing scores along with stopping discriminating practices among Black students. Student had to start being properly identify and placed in the right academic setting based on their own personal needs.
  • Personal View of Hobson v. Hansen

    This case made it necessary to integrate Blacks in the into heterogeneous groups to benefit these students. It was shocking that the capital of the United States was making groups based on standardized tests that was not in the best interest of any students that were Black. This case made an impact in special education by making it necessary to give all children regardless of race and IQ the opporuntity to be educted with their nondisablied peers.

    This case took a look at the grouping that the school division was doing with the students. It was found that the standardized assessments that were being given were used as tracking for Blacks students that were economically disadvantaged. This practice was not providing Black students with free and appropriate education. The court system made it necessary to work towards utilizing inclusion practice amount difference cultural groups.     The District of Columbia and the Superintendent Dr. Carl F. Hansen were utilizing testing that they felt was an appropriate way to group students. The school division utilized standardized testing as a tracking system for their Black students.

    This case fought for the rights of children with intellectual disabilities to receive quality education in the public school setting. Children that were identified with having a disability were being denied access to school this case. The break through with this case made changes in special education law by providing children with free and appropriate education in the least restrictive educational setting.

    The state of Pennsylvania felt that they were doing what was appropriate for those students at that given time. The state did not want to provide additional service to the students that were identify as retarded.

    This case made it necessary for students that have been identify as needing special education were placed in the least restrictive environment. This case also made it necessary for all states to provide students with mental retardation with free and appropriate education.

    This case made it necessary to educate all children that were identify as being intellectual disabled in the public school setting. This case established the use of least restrictive environment and free and appropriate education for individuals that were called retarded. Which stop those children from being educated in special facilities because the school division was not educating those students at all before. This case has impacted in special education tremendous by providing equality.

    This case looked into if the IEP accommodations provided a free and appropriate education even though the there was no sign language interpreter.This case made sure that all families were provided with due process by making sure each state communcited with parents the process.This case was found in favor of the school the division at the end that they did provide Rowley free and appropriate education.   • The Rowleys Stance in the Case of Board of Education v. Rowley

    The parents of Amy Rowley felt that she was not receiving free and appropriate education due to the school not want to provide their daughter with a sign language interpreter. The Rowley felt that Amy not having an interpreter was having an impact to her achieving academically at the highest level possible.
  • Personal View of Board of Education v. Rowley

    This case showed that the school felt that they were providing the student free and appropriate education, while the parents felt that was not the true due to the school not providing a sign language interpreter.Amy was proven to be making academic progress without the interpreter. It was shown that this child was progressing at the same level as some of her peers. This case was crucial to the use of due process and collaboration from the school and educating parents of the process and plan.
  • Impact of Board of Education v. Rowley

    This case made an impact on special education by showing parents that even though their child might not be granted everything that has been requested by them in the IEP do not necessarily means that the student is not reaching their goals at the highest level. This case helped the schools and parents understand the need of due process and parent involvement in the IEP process. This impact continue has continue to make parents more knowledgeable of the accomodations and services being provided.
