  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 1990

    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 1990
    Is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.   • No Child Left Behind (NCLB), 2001

    No Child Left Behind (NCLB), 2001
    Required that all school children participate in state and district testing and placed more accountability on achievement. NCLB also called for 100% accuracy of all students in reading and math by 2012. This law allows students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum, evaluate the students' performance with appropriate accommodations and use more scientific based programs and interventions.   • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), 2004

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), 2004
    Is a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children. The 2004 reauthorizations brought about significant changes, it required for special educators to be highly qualified, mandated all students with disabilities participate in standardized assessments and changed the IEP.
