    Brown v. Board of Education
    Students from racially/ethnically diverse backgrounds were segregated from their white peers. Racially diverse students were retained from education to give them the skills to be successful in life. Civil rights activates targeted segregation up until 1954 (enacted), the U.S. Supreme Court ordered defendants in the case Brown v. Board to desegregate by race.

  • PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Mills v. Board of Education

    PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Mills v. Board of Education
    In (1971) enacted, advocates for students with disabilities moved federal courts in the Mills v. Washington to order Pennsylvania and district of Colombia to provide students with disabilities a free and appropriate education in the same schools as children without an disability.

  • The Rehabilitation Act

    The Rehabilitation Act
    In (1973) enacted, President Nixon passed the Rehabilitation Act which protected and provided services for students with disabilities. Section 504 prohibits discrimination on the basis of physical or mental disability in programs receiving federal funds (Willis, 2014).
