    Pineda was the first to map the Gulf Coast and he also made a report of the region. It was important because his map led to exploration of the Gulf Coast

    Cortes conqured Mexico and he also conqured the Aztecs.
    This was important because of all the riches he found he sparked the interest of exploration.

    Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
    The purpose was to study land in the north and evaluate.
    Esteban got killed by the Zunis because he demanded food and the woman in the tribe.
    Fray Marcos said that there was a city filled with gold. He also said it was bigger than Mexico City.

    They got shipwrecked and landed on Galveston. He lived with the Karankawas for 4 years. He met the Karankawas who were really nice and aided them back to health.

    The original leader was DeSoto and he died at the Mississippi river. They discovered the Mississippi RIver.

    Coronado's expedition
    He was looking for Quivera and Cibola.. HIs guide was Turk.
    The guide was leading them to a different area. He discovered Palo Duro canyon and the Grand Canyon. The importance is that He said that they should not go to Texas becuase the land offers nothing, no gold and harsh land. With his report he stopped the exploration for about 150 years.
