    On the evening of July 17th rebel soldiers in the spanish protectorate of Morocco seized the control of their garrisons in Ceuta, Melilla and Tetuán. This event made the troops mobilise in all the country

    General Francisco Franco declares a state of war and arrives in Morocco to take control of the troops. The cities controlled by the rebels are: Cadíz,Cordoba and Sevilla in the south and Pamplona, Burgos and Valladolid in the north while the uprisings are defeated in Barcelona and Madrid.

    This is one of the worst battles in the Civil War. Nationalist gain an strategic victory that allows them to advance to the Mediterranean. The republican zone is cut in two and Cataluña is isolated

    The republican goverment launches an all-out campaign to reconect their terrritory. It fails and Frano deploys mass forces to invade Cataluña, HIs troops enter Barcelona and only Madrid, Valencia and a few other strongholds remain for the Republican forces.

    A plot within the Republican Army causes the goverment in Valencia to fall. There is a council formed to negotiate peace with Franco but he only accepts an unconditional surrender. Juan Negrín the president of the goverment flees to France
