    Because it spurred the US launch because they were
    in fear that the soviots would use a nuclear weapon
    on them.

    The launch of Explorer I showed the soviots that US can launch
    a satalite too and it put them back in the race.

  • Yuri Gagarin orbits the earth once and becomesthe first man in space.

    Yuri showed that a human could survive in space and
    because the soviots launched their first human into space.

  • Alan B. Shepard becomes thefirst american in space.

    america showed the soviots that they could put a man
    in space too.

  • JFK adresses congress andchallenges the nation to goto the moon befor the end ofthe decade.

    JFK challenging us to go to the moon was very
    important becauseit gave us more inspiration to
    put a man on the moon, we knew once we did that we
    would win the race.

  • Alexei Leonov spends 12minoutside his voskhodspacecraft preforming thefirst spacewalk.

    Alexei showed that is it possible to get outside of the
    spacecraft and that it is possible to walk in space.

  • Luna 9 becomes the first spacecraft to soft-land onthe moon.

    Luna 9 is important because it showed that it's
    possible to land on the moon it also showed the
    type of surface the moon has/had.

    Apollo 7 showed that NASA had the right design for
    the spacecraft to send to the moon.

    This journey showed that they could send a man up to the
    moon from earth succesfully.

    Neil Armstong and Edwin Aldrin walking on the moon was
    so important because when they walked on the moon we
    won the space race and the soviots gave up.
