    On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union sent the first ever satellite, which could travel over enemy terrain. The satellite was named Sputnik 1, then was sent into outter space

    On January 31st, 1958 the Soviet Union sent a dog named Laika to space, Laika was the first animal ever to orbit earth. She died after 5 hours of orbiting. The shuttle was called Sputnik 2

    At first the Soviet Union send Luna 1 in January... its missed its target but it was the first to orbit Earth In March U.S.A. sent Pioneer 4 but it missed and fell into Solar's Orbit. Later Luna 3 did a flyby photographed the moons far side.

    In 1960 the United States of America created a spy satellite. The satellite was a satellite that had a camera on it so the U.S.A. could spy on the Soviet Union. The satellites code-name was Corona and it took one of the most famous photos of the pentagon and it could take clear pictures of such a small thing such as a car. (Remember this satellite was in space and could see a car!)
