    This was the first satellite launched to orbit the earth. It was created by the Soviets and was approximately the size of the beach ball.

    Explorer 1
    The United States counter to Sputnik was the Explorer 1. This was USA's first Satellite and it was launched off of a Jupiter-C rocket.

    President Eisenhower signed an order to create NASA as a federal agency dedicated to space exploration.

  • Luna 2

    Luna 2
    The Launched Luna 2 and two days later it crashed into the moon becoming the first spacecraft to reach the surface of the moon or any other celestial body.

    Apollo 11 had a three man crew including Neil Armstrong. When it landed on the moon of July 20th 1969 it marked the first time man hand been on the moon
