    Luna 9 & 10

Launch of Luna 9Luna 9 was the very first space craft to land on the moon that was sent by the Russians. The spacecraft landed on oceanus procellarum. Luna 9 was able to take pictures of the surface of the moon but were not able to be realeased early. Luna 10 was the first spacecraft to orbit the moon, also by the Russians. The design of the spacecraft was a lot like Lunar 9 but only took 3 hours to orbit.
