Got accepted into college
Sophie got accepted into Seoul National University with the Korean Flute (Korean traditional music). Although her major wasn't her complete choice, she tried hard to be able to pass. Her college life was made up of dating, parties, being active in clubs and studying. -
Gulf War
Iraq invades Kuwait. This leads up to the cause of the Gulf War. Iraq and Iran had already been in a war for a long period of time, which eventually led up to many problems. The fact that Iran and Iraq had many problems which eventually led to an explosion (war) is similar to Sophie's amount of stress. It was hard for her to handle it, which later led her to let out her stress in some way. -
Got into graduate school
Sophie regretted not trying hard enough in college, so she decided to work hard to get into graduate school. Remembering the regret of not working hard enough, she did her best at graduate school. She was recognized by many teachers because of her skilled ability to play the Korean flute. In addition, it was tough to get into graduate school with the Korean flute. -
Got into Seoul Metropolitan Music Orchestra

Met her future husband
In February of 1997, Sophie met her boyfriend, Sun-Ho, who would soon become her husband. When they met, Sun-Ho was still a student, studying to get his master's degree at Seoul National University. -
Daughter was born
In Seoul, South Korea, Julie Sung Eun Kang was born. -
First Battle of Yeonpyeong
This battle was a fight between South and North Korea near Yeonpyeong, a small island. The battle occurred on water by the South and North Korean navies. Although this battle was significantly more challenging than Sophie's move, Sophie still faced difficulties because of the thoughts of being unhappy again. -
Moved to Austin, Texas
In order to break free of her stressful work in Korea, Sophie decided to follow her husband to Austin, Texas and start over there. Little did she know that she would face some of the biggest hardships here. -
George W. Bush becomes the 43rd president
George W. Bush becomes the forty-third president of the United States. This was the same year when Sophie moved to Naperville, signifying a new beginning for both the citizens of the U.S and Sophie as well. -
