4th chromebook cart purchase insures one cart per grade level grades 2-5

2nd and 3rd group of tech cadre teachers graduate. Some started as novice users, some as digital immigrants. But now there are that many more teachers who have an understanding of how to teach digital natives, and the skills to try and change what they do.

BYOD initiative for 5th grade begins--all 5th graders have access to computers daily.

Purchase tables and standing desks for all classrooms-- teachers have freedom to create design in their room. New rugs for all classrooms as common learning space.

All 4th graders have daily access to chromebooks.

TK-1st have pods of ipads and teachers know what to do with them to engage students. 2nd-3rd grade classes share one cart of chromebooks between 2 classess. This allows daily access to tech with minimal scheduling hassles, at a good cost to the district. 4th-12th grade have a BYOD program with assistance for families that can't afford their own.

4th and 5th grade classes are paperless. Lower grades are still using some paper because kids do have to know how to have some penmanship.

Students who began the BYOD initiative as 6th graders graduate from SLVHS. Their senior portfolios and exit interviews, and college and vocational acceptance, show a level of learning and success that surpasses previousy years. SLVUSD has succeeded in developing student learners who are ready for whatever comes their way.
